I'm so glad you are visiting the weekly news on our class blog! Please come back weekly to keep up with what we are working on in class :).
Language
Writing: On Monday, 9/15 we will be working on Show, Don't Tell. I am really working on getting the students to write descriptively by using our 5 senses. They are doing a great job! I am hoping to administer a test assessing this skill on Tuesday, however if it appears as though the students need more time, we will take the assessment on Wednesday. On Wednesday we will begin learning types of Figurative Language and how to use them in our writing. We will continue this throughout the week.
Grammar: We are working on complete and simple subjects and predicates

Reading
We are currently reading the book Skinnybones by Barbara Park. I think the students are really enjoying it! Every day we summarize, make inferences, and connect to the text.
The students are also working on a fiction book report in class. This is going to be taken for a major grade. They are doing a great job!

Social Studies
There will be an open book assessment on "Texas Climates" pages 34-37 on Tuesday, September 16th.
On September 17th we will begin learning about the people who lived in Texas long ago. The students will have a test on this, so please look for a study guide to come home. This test is NOT open book. The date of the assessment is to be determined.
